WorkVOUSSELime and interior architecture, Marseille

VOUSSE

VOUSSE is a concept project by fioel. The site of a lime and interior architecture studio in Marseille, told as one endless field of its walls.

The VOUSSE homepage: photographs of an arched oak door, lime walls, a stair and an ochre wall spread over a white page around the studio name.

Concept project by fioel

The problem

A studio that works in lime sells something you understand only up close: the grain of a wall, the edge of a niche, the colour of a sand. Most interior sites show finished rooms from far away, one project after another in a grid, so the material that makes the studio different never reaches the screen.

The reasoning

  1. 01

The photographs were already a board

The pictures came as one photographer's series of walls, niches, doors and stairs in pale lime, nearly all close up. Pinned to a white wall they read as a library of materials, so the home is one endless field of them with the studio's name fixed at the centre.

  2. 02

The name stays under the pictures

The name sits under the photographs as they pass, and a second copy in inverted colour reads on top of them, so it is always legible without a box or a shadow behind it.

  3. 03

A sheet, never a new page

A house opens as a white sheet that slides up over the field and keeps it underneath. Scroll past its end and you are back in the field where you left it.

  4. 04

    One face, two curves

One grotesque in a few sizes, one grid of sixteen columns and two easing curves for every move, so the photographs do the talking.

The solution

VOUSSE's site is one field of lime photographs that runs without end in either direction. Point at a picture and it names its room; click it and the house it belongs to slides up as a sheet, with its name running across the top in large letters and every room in its own lime.

Three features

  1. 01

    The field

Photographs of walls, niches and doors pass under the studio's name in an endless loop, and each one names its room under the pointer.

  2. 02

    The sheet

A house opens over the field instead of on a new page, and scrolling past its end closes it where you were.

  3. 03

    Contact in place

The photographs step aside and the form opens in the centre, without leaving the page.
